  1. “Memories”, of our beautiful friend and teacher who tested and auditioned Hannah for a music place at MHCHS long ago followed a year later by our son Jonathan both of whom played for MHCHS Concert Band under the wonderful direction of Mr. & Mrs. McCanlis with Jonny traveling to many destinations in Europe with them and always playing along side Hannah & Jonathan at so many school concerts and plays.

Jonny accompanied Hannah & Jonathan on the piano to so many of their music examinations right up to grade 8 Flute for them both. As a teacher and a dear friend he regularly came to our home in Arkley to play and teach them on Sunday’s but he always needed a lift back to Whetstone so he could shop at his favourite store, Waitrose.

Jonny holds a very special place in the hearts of the “Back” family. His love and support will never be forgotten by anyone of us.

God Bless you”Maestro” until we meet again.

  2. Jonny Webb Jonny or ‘Mr Webb’ was one of a kind . The most gifted and kindest man our family have ever had the pleasure to know . From auditioning Alessandra for a music place at Mill Hill County he continued to help our daughters through their music studies at Mill Hill teaching them at school and at home they couldn’t have achieved their full potential without his incredible teaching skills kindness and patience .As a nearby neighbour we shared many car journeys to Mill Hill County with some great conversations always making us laugh …at 7.30am in the morning …Totteridge lane traffic jam that was quite a feat with tired teenagers but he managed it with his great dry sense of humour. His kindness was second to none and his talent as a musician was extraordinary he was up there with the best . You will deeply missed ‘maestro’ but never forgotten . Rest in Peace our dear friend Michelle Vito Alessandra Claudia and Gabriella xxxxx

  3. A Poem For Jonny.

Old shoes. Worn. They told your tale and only you walked in them. They walk no more.
Old keys. Played. They sang your song when words failed you.
    They sing no more.
Old songs. Ringing. They ring in my ears – the notes you played.
    I remember them.
Old sheet music. Silent. The papers now just quiet black dots.
They make not even a whisper without you.
Old friends. Loved. They laughed with you and you were not alone.
    They do not laugh today.
Old photos. Still smiling. They now stand in your place.
    They remember you.

  4. Had about 2 or 3 years of sax lessons with Jonny at Mill Hill County. Always loads of fun, used to really look forward to those sessions. Great teacher and even greater man. Rest in Peace x

  5. Lessons with Jonny were one of my absolute highlights of school at MHCHS. They were always looked forward to, more for the conversation than the music… RIP xxx

  6. I don’t know what to say. This is a huge loss and weighs very heavy on my heart. Mr. Webb was, without fail, one of the best teachers and musicians I have ever known. He was a constant source of joy, laughter and encouragement and I will remember him always.

Thank you, Jonny aka Webby, for being a wonderful teacher and friend. I will miss you very much. Forever grateful for all of the happy memories ‘dude’.

  7. Webbo’s childish humour was the cornerstone of the spirit in which we all played for Forward FC down at Powerleague. Whether it was pissing about in training, losing the league in the final game of the season or getting whooped 23-5 Jonny always played with an infectious joy. Finally winning the league after playing together for so long was fucking brilliant. Rest in peace, thank you for the memories and the many, many jooookes.

  8. So sad to hear about the passing of Mr Webb. I’ve always had fond memories of him teaching me the clarinet at MHCHS and having fun whilst doing it! Clearly he touched many people’s hearts with his humour and musical talent.
Thoughts to all his loved ones. X

  9. Dear Webb,
You helped me through my school years a lot more than you probably realised. Going to your room allowed me to release whatever was stressing me, and just your presence was the reason I was able to do that. Thank you for the endless ridiculous memories on Band Tours, Open Evenings, Concerts and Awards Ceremonies; they could never have imprinted such wonderful memories in my heart had you not been there, being your hilarious, intuitive and immeasurably talented self- (e.g. the time you couldn’t stop laughing during the mine tour in Austria and we annoyed all the other strangers). Thank you for some of my best memories during school days (mostly form time that I didn’t attend) as well. Thank you for giving me Rapunzel, your cuddly goat toy, to make me feel better during a particularly bad day.
We all miss you, & think and talk about you often.

  10. Jonny was a most talented musician and an excellent clarinet player. As a student at Trinity College of Music he played first clarinet in one of the best large ensembles I have been fortunate to coach. Even now, twenty five years later, I remember his wonderful playing and his brilliant sense of humor. R.I.P. Jonny!

Remembering you today Jonny, two years on and you are and always will be forever in our hearts.

Much love “Maestro” and Thank-you for all the love and laughter you brought to our lives.

  12. Jonny Webbs as I used to call him was the most talented saxophonist I had ever met and this really does mean something. I started playing the sax at 8 years old and attended a couple of music schools in my spare time, so I met a few; as you can imagine. Webby was arguably the kindest person I ever met…truly… and my 5 years as a pupil of his took me to Grade 6. I wish I focused more.
A great Nigerian artist brought out an album last week that is heavily influenced by the saxophone. I picked up my saxophone to improvise whilst looping the song in the background… glad that I have not lost all talent.
For me the saxophone will forever by synonymous with your name Jonny. I can’t thank you for what you did for me in my life as you were not just a teacher but a confidant and a dear friend.

Till we meet again in paradise

    Reggie x

  13. Thinking of you today Jonny (26th November 2020) on what would have been your
    50th Birthday!!!

Thank-you for all the love and laughter you brought to our lives especially on Sunday’s when you played piano with Hannah on the flute and Jono on the Sax!!

We will never forget you “Maestro” , God Bless you mate, because he truly blessed us with a teacher and a close friend like you!

  14. A gentle, caring and cheery soul that I had the pleasure to know only too briefly.

Jonny accompanied me on my Grade 7 – and we occasionally bumped in to each other on the bus journey to school – and though I was never officially his student, he never failed to show, teach and encourage me not only how to be a better player but also a better person.

  15. I’ve just come across this site, almost by chance. I was a close friend of Jonny’s for a few years at primary school – I’m the kid holding the cello in the pic of the school orchestra, and the two of us made some forays into jazz – he was a Glenn Miller fan in those days, and I could already play a little jazz on the piano. We also used to kick a football around on the JLC fields near his house. He came round once to visit after his family had moved north, but we then lost touch, although we saw each other years later when we were both playing at the Schools’ Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. I’m very sorry to hear that he died so young. I remember Terry and Marianne well, and Matthew; best wishes to them all.
