Tribute from Fiona McCanlis

When anyone said the name Jonny Webb to me, I immediately smiled. That is the effect he had on people, he made people smile and laugh.

I knew him for almost 23 years through my mum and dad when he began working at Mill Hill County High School; my Dad was Director of Music at the time. I started lessons with him when I was 9 at the Saturday Music School before I started as an MHCHS pupil, age 12, and started saxophone lessons with him.

I learned so much from him, he was such a talented musician. I would not be where I am today (a music teacher) if it wasn’t for Jonny. Every music lesson I had with him we would laugh and be silly (as well as being professional at the same time); we would enjoy playing music together and he would also guide me and give me advice not just about music, but other things, too.

He was a very close family friend and we all shared a lot of happy memories together. I will never forget the cinema trip outings we had, and the school band trips we shared. The one in Spain was a memorable one when we shared a 6am swim watching the sunrise after a late night. It was very cold but worth it!

Jonny also joined us on our family holiday to France a few years ago, and that is what he was to us: family. That was an unforgettable week of fun and laughter, he even lost his phone in the sea (he forgot it was in his pocket when he went for a swim!). We all had such a good time.

I know Jonny will be truly missed by all of the people’s lives that he touched. For me, he will be missed as a teacher, a talented musician, a friend and as a brother.

Gone but never forgotten.

R.I.P. Jonny, love always

Fiona xXx
